What is Sevens?
Once the deal is done, the four 7s go on the table, and players extend each suit rank by rank from there. You get three passes per game. Holding back a playable card to block others is fair play, but a pass after you have used them all puts you out. The first to play all their cards wins. Simple rules, but deciding which card to hold back and when makes all the difference.

Rules of Sevens
These rules always apply at our tables.
- Start
- after all 52 cards are dealt, the four 7s go onto the table automatically. The player who held the 7 of spades plays first.
- Playable cards
- you may only play next to either end of a row on the table, that is, a card of the same suit one rank above or below.
- Passing
- you may pass even when you could play. You get three passes per game (passing because you can't play counts as well).
- Out
- your fourth pass puts you out. Your hand is laid out beside the table (cards that don't join a row connect once the gap is filled) and you take no more turns.
- Winning
- the first to play out every card wins. If everyone else drops out and one player is left, that player wins too.
Optional rules
You choose these when opening a table.
- Choosing the rules
- pick "Only when stuck" when you open the table to play the variant where you may pass only when you can't play, and two passes in a row put you out.
