What is High & Low?
Once everyone has placed points, the house turns a card from the deck. Everyone chooses at the same time whether the next card will be higher or lower. Call it right and you go up a step; call it wrong and you lose what you placed. From the first step on, you can stop and take what you have won so far. The round ends when nobody is left in. The game ends after ten rounds, and whoever has the most points wins.
Playing High & Low at Kirakuken
- Everyone sees the same card and chooses at once. Choices stay hidden until the card turns
- A step table: the more you call right, the more you take (×1.5 to ×12)
- You play against the house, so you can play alone
Rules of High & Low
These rules always apply at our tables.
- Points
- everyone starts with 1,000 points. It's all points; no money is involved.
- Placing points
- each round, decide how many points to place (10 to 100, in steps of 10).
- Card order
- A is lowest and K is highest (A=1, J=11, Q=12, K=13). Suits don't matter.
- Calling
- choose whether the next card will be higher or lower than the current one. Call it right and you go up a step; call it wrong and you lose what you placed and sit out the rest of the round.
- Ties
- if the next card is the same rank, it's a push. You stay on the same step and go on to the next card.
- Stopping
- from the first step on, you can stop and take your points at the multiplier you have reached. Reach the sixth step and you take twelve times and finish there.
- Cards
- a single deck is shuffled anew every round.
- End
- the game ends after ten rounds. Whoever has the most points wins (playing alone, it's how far you got above where you started).
Levels and payouts
What you get when you stop is the points you placed times the multiplier for your step (your stake included).
| Level | With a 10-point bet | Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | ||
| Step 1 | 15 points | 1.5× |
| Step 2 | 20 points | 2× |
| Step 3 | 30 pts | 3× |
| Step 4 | 50 pts | 5× |
| Step 5 | 80 points | 8× |
| Step 6 | 120 points (and you finish) | 12× |
At every step, your chance of calling right is about three in four. Knowing when to stop is the skill.
