Rules of Yacht
These rules always apply at our tables.
- Your turn
- roll five dice, keep the ones you like and reroll the rest up to twice (three rolls in all). You must then write your final roll into one of the categories still open. If no category would score, you still fill one in with 0.
- Upper section (6 categories)
- ones to sixes. Score the total of the dice showing the chosen number.
- Lower section (7 categories)
- three of a kind, four of a kind, full house, small straight, large straight, five dice and chance. The patterns and points are in the score sheet below.
- Upper bonus
- if your six upper categories total 63 or more, you get +35.
- Extra five-dice bonus
- if you have already scored five dice for 50 and roll five of a kind again, you get +100. If you then write it in full house, small straight or large straight, it scores full points even though the pattern doesn't fit. The bonus can be earned any number of times.
- End
- the game ends when everyone has filled all 13 categories. The highest total wins; equal totals are a draw.
Yacht score sheet
Fill in the 13 categories one at a time. A category that scores nothing still has to be filled in with 0, so choosing where to throw away a roll is part of the plan.
| Category | Example roll | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Upper section (+35 if the six total 63 or more) | ||
| Ones to sixesAdd only the chosen number | → Scored as fours: 12 | Total of all dice |
| Lower section | ||
| Three of a kindThree or more alike | → 20 points | sum of all 5 |
| Four of a kindFour or more alike | → 22 points | sum of all 5 |
| Full houseThree alike + two alike | → 25 pts | 25 |
| Small straightFour in a run | → 30 pts | 30 |
| Large straightFive in a run | → 40 pts | 40 |
| Five diceAll five alike | → 50 pts | 50 |
| ChanceAny dice | → 19 points | sum of all 5 |
| Bonuses | ||
| Upper bonus | Upper six total 63 or more | +35 |
| Extra bonus | Each new five of a kind after scoring five dice for 50 | +100 |
Faded dice don't count towards the score. With the extra bonus, you may score full points in full house, small straight or large straight even if the pattern doesn't fit.
