Rules of Liar's Dice

These rules always apply at our tables.

Start
everyone rolls five dice and peeks at their own. Nobody can see anyone else's.
Bidding
on your turn, bid how many of a face there are on the whole table. Each bid must raise the count, or keep the count with a higher face.
Liar
instead of bidding, you may challenge the last bid. All the dice are shown: if the bid was right the challenger loses a die, and if it was wrong the bidder does.
Next round
whoever lost a die starts the new bidding (or the next player, if they have no dice left). Everyone still in rerolls their dice.
Winning
the last player with dice left wins.

Optional rules

You choose these when opening a table.

Ones are wild
1s count as any face that is bid. When switching the bid to 1s, the count must be at least half the old one (rounded up); when switching from 1s to another face, it must be more than double.
