How to play Tic-Tac-Toe

What is Tic-Tac-Toe?

Be the first to line up your marks across, down or diagonally. It's the simplest two-player game there is - one everybody has played at least once. You can set the board size and how many in a row it takes to win when you create a room, from the classic 3×3 all the way up to a big 10×10 board.

• Choose any board size from 3×3 to 10×10
• Set the win condition (how many in a row) anywhere from 3 to 10
• The familiar 〇 and ✕ marks
• Three CPU strengths. Undo is available against the CPU

Rules of Tic-Tac-Toe

These rules always apply at our tables.

Turns

the first player is O and the second is X. Take turns placing one mark on any empty square. A mark, once placed, never moves.

Winning

the first to get the set number of marks in a row, across, down or diagonally, wins. The winning line is shown on the board.

Draw

if the board fills up and nobody has a line, the game is a draw.

Optional rules

You choose these when opening a table.

Board size

anything from 3×3 to 10×10, chosen when you open the table.

To win

choose how many in a row it takes, from 3 up to the length of a side. Up to 3 on a 3×3 board, up to 10 on a 10×10.

How many players can play Tic-Tac-Toe?

2 players. If you're short of players, the host can add CPU players, so you can start a table on your own.

What age is Tic-Tac-Toe suitable for?

There's no particular age guide. Once the rules are clear, adults and children can play at the same table.

Does it cost anything?

Nothing at all. No account and no app to install: enter a name and you're straight in.

How long does a game take?

About 1-5 min.

Can I play on a smartphone?

Yes. It runs in the browser, so the same URL opens on iPhone and Android alike.
